No matter your age, there’s something about the Addams family that evokes childhood nostalgia. From comic strips to TV series to live-action movies, this kooky clan of memorable characters is timeless and cemented in pop culture. Plus, sometimes it’s just nice to see a family that’s more dysfunctional than your own!

There have been many notable performances in the series, including Anjelica Huston’s portrayal of Morticia and Christina Ricci’s turn as Wednesday. This new animated iteration promises to deliver exciting characterizations with casting so spot-on, we couldn’t have dreamt it up ourselves.

Oscar Isaac as Gomez

With the natural sultry demeanour necessary for the role of Gomez, Oscar Isaac even looks the part, although he’s animated in this film! His voice is sure to shine through and win the hearts of long-time Gomez fans. The head of the household, but also a man who is passionately in love with his wife, Gomez is the perfect fit for Isaac, one of the most respectable heartthrobs of this generation.

Charlize Theron as Morticia

The queen of playing complex, badass women, Charlize Theron was made to play Morticia. Theron thrives on giving life to strong and divisive characters, and Morticia is just that, as the witchy woman who is the real brains of the family. She knows just how to get her way with her husband, while still being a good, but stern, mother. If anyone can convey a personality that’s intimidating, lovable and funny, it’s Theron.

Chloë Grace Moretz as Wednesday

Chloë Grace Moretz isn’t afraid of the dark! She’s been playing sassy, independent young women ever since she broke out in films like 500 Days of Summer and Kick-Ass. Always choosing diverse and unique roles, Moretz knows how to serve up angst, woe and comedy too. She’s the right fit for the over-the-top macabre Wednesday Addams (who, in this version, sports braids tied in nooses).

Finn Wolfhard as Pugsley

Finn Wolfhard has become a household name through his offbeat charm, which shines in roles he plays in Stranger Things and It. He’s no stranger to portraying characters that face off against weird and creepy monsters, so playing the son of Morticia and Gomez seems right in his not-so-sweet spot.

Nick Kroll as Uncle Fester

Known for playing eccentric characters, especially on his own TV series the Kroll Show, it’s clear Nick Kroll would fit right in with the Addams family. He has also proven he can bring the laughs as a voice actor on his animated TV show, Big Mouth, and we’re excited to see his approach to the role of the deranged yet lovable uncle.

Snoop Dogg as Cousin Itt

This voice cast is filled with epic surprises, and casting Snoop Dogg as Cousin Itt takes the cake. The character is known for its nonsensical gibberish, and we trust Snoop will have tons of fun with the wild sounds the hairy cousin makes.

Bette Midler as Grandmama

Bette Midler could do pretty much anything and we’d still applaud her, but any time she channels her witchy spirit (think Hocus Pocus), we are here for it. Taking on the role of Grandmama in the star-studded movie is a wickedly fun return for the legendary actor. If you ask us, no one could play the cynical hag better (and we mean that as a compliment).

The voice cast of The Addams Family is the gift that keeps on giving. On top of these key characters, you’ll also hear from Catherine O’Hara and Martin Short as Grandma and Grandpa Frump, Allison Janney as Margaux Needler, Elsie Fisher as Parker Needler and Tituss Burgess as Glenn. We can’t wait to see (and hear) what this new Addams family film has in store when it hits theatres on October 11.

Take your own weird family to see The Addams Family.

It’s likely that everyone from grandma to the kids is familiar with these zany, fun characters, so round up your favourite oddballs for the perfect bonding experience and weirdly wonderful waves of nostalgia.
