Jane Campion's western psychological drama The Power of the Dog picked up the most Oscar® nominations at 12 including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor for Benedict Cumberbatch, Best Supporting Actor for Jesse Plemons and Best Supporting Actress for Kristen Dunst, followed by Denis Villeneuve’s Dune with 10 nominations including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Visual Effects and Best Sound.
Belfast and West Side Story also picked up seven a piece including Best Picture nominations for both films, Best Director for Kenneth Branagh and Steven Spielberg respectively, as well as multiple acting nods.
Rounding out the 10 Best Picture nominees were CODA, Don't Look Up, Drive My Car, Licorice Pizza, Nightmare Alley and King Richard.
King Richard, based on the true story of Venus and Serena Williams' rise to tennis stardom with the help of their father, picked up six nominations that also included Best Actor for Will Smith and Best Supporting Actress for Aunjanue Ellis.
The 94th Academy Awards® will air Sunday March 27, 2022 live from Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre. A host has not yet been chosen for the ceremony.
