It’s a coveted achievement when your debut film becomes an instant classic. Ari Aster experienced this after delivering one of the scariest films in recent memory, Hereditary. That also makes it much harder to follow up this level of success with another movie, but with Midsommar, Aster is proving he’s no one hit wonder.
We caught up with Aster and his film's star Jack Reynor to talk about the movie, which follows a couple on vacation in Sweden as they participate in cult-like festival activities that at first seem idyllic, but turn out to be sinister. Even experienced horror fans will be shaken by this creepy and surreal summertime horror story. Aster may be a newer filmmaker, but his directing is that of a seasoned professional, and the twists and turns are ones you will not see coming.
