It’s been over a year since the latest Bond film was supposed to hit theatres, so saying that we’re excited for October 8 is a bit of an understatement.
You’ve probably heard by now that this will be Daniel Craig’s last time as James Bond. The actor has made it clear that he’s getting too old to play the super spy, and while we’re sad to see him go, it also makes No Time to Die that much more special. Craig is the third longest reigning Bond actor after Sir Roger Moore and Sir Sean Connery, with five Bond films in the last 15 years, and we can’t wait to see his swan song— we have a feeling he’ll go out with a bang.
In case you weren’t pumped already, here are 5 facts about No Time to Die that’ll have you rushing to the theatre.
1. A sharp new director
Directing a Bond film is a pretty big deal for an up-and-coming director, but Cary Fukunaga has already made quite a name for himself. He directed the entire first season of the critically acclaimed HBO series True Detective, and even won an Emmy for it. You may remember him as the director of indie films like Beasts of No Nation and Jane Eyre. We can’t wait to see what this visionary director does with No Time to Die.2. Bond gets a female perspective with new writer
Fans of Fleabag and Killing Eve will be excited to learn that three-time Emmy winner Phoebe Waller Bridge co-wrote the No Time to Die screenplay. The whip-smart and cunning British actress, director, producer and writer is a name that gets us intrigued anytime we see her attached to a project. We know she’ll be bringing her sharp, feminist edge to the latest iteration of Bond. She’s only the second female writer to ever co-script a Bond film.3. First Bond film shot with IMAX cameras
Feast your eyes on what will be the most beautiful Bond film yet. No Time to Die is the first Bond film shot using IMAX cameras, meaning this will be pristine and larger than life on an IMAX screen. Previous Bond films that played in IMAX were converted to the format after the fact, so No Time to Die will be a visual spectacle unlike any Bond film that came before it. It demands to be seen on the biggest screen possible.4. Daniel Craig helped Ana de Armas land the job
Director Cary Fukunaga had the idea of casting Ana de Armas as a new Bond girl since some of the film takes place in Cuba, where the actress is from. He approached Daniel Craig with the idea, and having just worked with Ana on Knives Out, he was extremely supportive and encouraged Fukunaga to hire her. We’re excited to see their amazing chemistry again and meet Ana’s new character.5. Billie Eilish’s Grammy winning song
Pop star Billie Eilish continues her reign in the music world with the most successful Bond song to date. Her song, also titled No Time to Die, was released back in 2020 when the film was supposed to come out and has already won a Grammy for Best Song written for Visual Media. She became the first artist born in the 21st century to top the UK charts, she was the first woman to write and perform a Bond song that topped the UK chart, and she became the youngest artist to ever write and perform a Bond song.See No Time to Die at Cineplex theatres on October 8.
